Mmm books & Immi
Weasel and I took a walk over to the park again today. It was raining throughout, but it meant that no one else was there and that the air was all fresh and clean. Very enjoyable. Anyway, while we were walking and talking we got on the subject of children’s books. We’ve decided that we must pick up copies of the old classics like the Wizard of Oz [which is actually a series of 15 books! Had no idea, only knew of three] and Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. So I went onto Amazon and looked through the first 20 pages [of something like 2100]. Managed to find a lot of things I very much want, like Anne of Green Gables series, Phantom Tollbooth, The Giving Tree, Heidi, The Borrowers, Water Babies and the Jungle Book… the list is big. It is going to take me ages to get all of them. It was fantastic going through the list and remembering all these books that I loved growing up and that helped shape my outlook.
Last Tuesday, Doodle and I went to see Imogen Heap in London. Weasel was supposed to go too, but she decided she really needed to finish a report for work so she stayed home. Sold her ticket to a scalper for £3. Anyway, Scala is a small venue. It has the main stage, standing in front as usual, then a sort of U going around the stage lifted a bit. At the very back, there was a sort of shelf area which hit just above my knee. This was great for sitting on while the opening acts were on [Zoë Keating opened first, she was amazing, go get her album - she plays the cello in ways you cannot believe, second act was weird drumming man who to quote a nearby person was 'good but not quite right' - he was playing the drums to video game music, as you do]. Then when Immi came out, it was great cause I could stand on the shelf and see over everyone’s head to see her. She is amazing.
She played most of the tracks for the new album, Can’t Take it in [from Naria soundtrack], two Frou Frou tracks [Let Go and It's Good to be in Love], and from I Megaphone, Come Here Boy! I was in heaven. Come Here Boy is one of my all time favourite songs, and everything from the new album pleases me in so many ways. And because I was up on the shelf, no one was touching me! Only draw back was that I only had about 5′ or 5’3″ to stand in and with my shoes on, I was about 5’8″. The pain was sooo worth it.
I managed to sneak in three bottles of water too!! I put two in my trousers, one in the little pocket of my hoodie [second decoy] and one in my bag [main decoy]. They took the bottle from my bag, figured they’d got me and let me in! Very pleased with that. It was smoky as usual. Unfortunately, on the walk home from the rail station, it was pouring rain so Doodle and I did not smell pleasant upon our arrival.
Was one of the best gigs I’ve been to in a long time and I’m very very excited to see her again at the end of March!
And finally, I can’t believe Speed Racer is dead.

Speed Racer Dead?
It’s a lyric from Cooling by Tori.
I was listening to it as I was writing.
thank god.
I imagine if speed racer did die, many people would mourn.
