Just on the Ground

We went to the pub today for lunch and I got to see my first Vicars in person! I’ve seen them on TV loads of times and references in newspapers and even in conversation. They were pretty cool. I wished I had my camera.

Today’s trip to the pub will probably be our last. We’re moving offices on the 15th and we probably won’t go next week due to meetings and other engagements. We have a proper moving meeting scheduled for next Tuesday so I’ll know better what’s happening then.

I’m really excited for it personally. Shorter commute, proper space and lunch areas will all be mine. New office is across the street from some excellent places to go walking and the best cake ever [although we will not be indulging more than once every six months... yearly or never would be better].

I also had my review today, after I tried to quit last year we agreed I could have a review every six months. So went through everything and I think we’re all very pleased overall. I’m much happier there now than I ever have been before.

I’ve had to register for a Word Press account so I could get access to Akismet. I had 134 new comments today, but none of them were real. First time I’ve had that much crap here. Ah well.

On UKA today there was an excellent thread about songs that make you go WOW. This is what I said:

Space Dog by Tori Amos, turned me into the raging scary fan I was as a teenager. I’m much better now. To be honest, I think it was because the lyrics are completely fucked, but they speak to me. They’re amazing. So much love.

Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode. I can’t remember why, it was 17 years ago. It might have been because it said Jesus a lot and because it was a swear word in my world it was naughty. I like naughty things.

Stay by Shakespeare’s Sister! When that song came out, I remember thinking it was so heavy and loud. The video was excellent too. Listening to it now it is just so cute.

Losing My Religion by R.E.M. Spent a time being my favourite song for a summer. I can’t remember why…

Mad World by Tears for Fears!! This breaks my heart in the most amazing way. It is such a simple sounding song, but it kicks you in the balls at the same time. When he sings ‘happy birthday’… oh sweet Jesus. And ‘the dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had’?! I mean come on! Awesome!

I have a lot of songs with ‘wow’ moments in, but the whole song isn’t necessarily.

  • Evergreen by Faithless, when she sings ‘my funny Valentine’

  • Remembrance by GusGus, when he sings ‘I don’t love you anymore’
  • Tears from the Moon by Conjure One, when she sings ‘Stop. stop haunting me. this should be easy, as easy as when you stopped wanting me’
  • Live in Texas version of One Step Closer by Linkin Park, in the middle when they do the ‘give me a reason to peel off my face’ bit
  • America by Simon & Garfunkel, the ‘New Jersey turnpike’ bit

I’m sure there are hundreds of others I could put down, but I stopped here.
