There’s a frog on my toe
Yesterday I was tending to my herb garden and I was attacked! I started with one trough picking out slugs and snails [no puppy dog tails] and watering. I moved onto the next one, I pushed the parsley aside and a frog jumped out! I yelped. It was such a surprise. Scared the bejesus out of me. The parsley is tall and fairly thick, but I didn’t think it was enough for a frog home. He was at least 4″ long, usually our garden frogs are 2-3″.
Anyway, I yelped, he hopped off into the bushes. I finished up and went inside to work on my shirt some more. Weasel came to find me shortly after, she said the black and white kitty that frequents our garden had found the frog. There was a lot of pouncing, batting and chasing. The kitty got tired of him eventually and the last time she approached she just sniffed him and moved on. The frog jumped off behind the shed never to be seen again.
Turns out I’m not quite ready for the therapeutic work programme yet, so I’ve contacted my DEA [disability employment advisor - it makes me giggle to think of them as my drug enforcement administration agent] and they’re sending me information on a few things. One of which is training, I find that idea rather intriguing.
I’ve managed to get most of the wool from Weasel’s ex-skirt rolled into balls and I’ve started knitting it again. It looks much better now. I moved onto the circular needles today.
Yesterday I got some bread on sale – small round loaves. I thought they’d make wonderful bread bowls for soup, I intended to freeze them until I got around to making a soup or stew. My freezer is was too full though so I made a stew-ish thing today. Normally I’d have used corn and peas with the other vegetables. I didn’t have those though, I had broccoli and courgette. So I put them in. I also steamed the potatoes and carrots before cutting them and adding them to the pot. I read that if you boil/steam vegetables with skins before cutting them they’re more nutritious and have a better flavour. It definitely tasted better to me, and when I asked Weasel she said she could tell something was different [better]. I recommend it. The bowls worked wonderfully, I cut up the bread centres I think I’m going to have a go at making croutons.
I’m going to make hotdog/hamburger buns tomorrow and have tofu dogs with left-over stew on top. It will be yummy.
The long holiday [21st-25th Aug] I had planned with Horatio has hit a snag. His work diary had the 24th as the Bank Holiday, but when I changed my calendar to August it said the holiday was the 31st. His work diary was wrong, so now we have to try and figure out what to do. I’ve told him I’d like to have as much time as possible, but I’ll go along with whatever he decides. I miss him is all, he was in France for two weeks in July and I’m busy with BlanketGirl for most of September then there’s a family wedding and then a trip to the Lake District with Weasel and her family in October and that means not too much time for us.
