Don’t know you anymore

I have re-entered my life and I’m feeling more like me. I have a lot to catch up on, so please bear with me.

Having BlanketGirl here was super awesome. We’ve made cunning plans to try and arrange an annual visit. Stupid money makes everything more complicated.

Long time readers know that I am sick and so it BG. This holiday was not about sight-seeing or touring, but rather being together and having mutual understanding and support. To this end we watched a lot of Judge Judy. We also took in some Daria, Simpsons, Garfield [movies and TV show] and several movies [including a memorable Aliens marathon]. We didn’t get to watch everything we wanted, but that just means we’ll have something for next time.

We sewed a new shirt. She gave me a lovely pattern and a whole pile of useful supplies. I have no reason to not to it now. She is much more experienced than I and watching her was very educational. I feel more confident now. We also cooked many yummy things [perogies! pita chips!]. She made a fantastic enchilada dinner for six one night when Weasel’s family joined us. I’m in love with her recipe and I’m excited to play with it. There were kisses wagered over something too [I lost - neither of us were particularly disappointed]. We played many board games. She got to meet Weasel’s family and their house. We got a tour of the seaside from Stoat. When Horatio came to meet her we went out to dinner had the most incredible meal at The Vaults in Cambridge. Had our hair cut and styled. Had a fabulous few days in London where we:

BlanketGirl, Me and Tori September 11, 2009

  • Climbed a rather large hill to go to Highgate Cemetery [gorgeous].
  • Met a drunken Irishmen who offered Weasel and BG £20 to show him their tits. He was rather taken with the three of us but was saddened by the presence of Doodle. He had trouble standing up so it was good that he had a wall to melt against.
  • Stayed in a tiny hotel room and after the gigs we were wired so we watched bad late night TV.

I am sad that she had to go home, I want her to come back now. Or better yet, move here. It would be awesome if she were my neighbour.

Since she’s left I have:

  • Had my teeth checked, my dentist was very pleased and told me I was ‘a star’
  • Gone to my first sign language class [awesome, will tell more later]
  • Cleaned many bits of the house [helping me to readjust]
  • Gone to Weasel’s cousin’s wedding [gorgeous and very fun!]
  • Had a vasculitis appointment [all is well!]
  • Finally sent off my blood to the Canadian WG DNA study
  • Mastered the art of making my own torilla shells

I would say that I’m settled and I’ll be writing regularly once again… except that’s not true. On Saturday all the family and I are headed up to the Lake District to stay for a whole week! No internet! We’ll be walking, talking, playing, napping, reading, cooking, eating and resting. I’m so very excited for all of it.

Got a sister named Desire

I have so much I want to say, but my words are stuck. I am bereft now that BlanketGirl has gone home. We met Tori and I want to post that and several other photos. I have tales of drunken Irish men, fabulous restaurants, giant hills, conversations, TV marathons, sewing, cooking, family & friend outings and a hundred other little things.

Life was just so much brighter with her here. I feel like I’m coming down off a high, my head throbs, my mouth is cottony, I’m tired.

I’ll settle back in soon enough.

My sister gave me a magnet: ‘There’s no friend like a sister and no better sister than you.’ Sums it up very nicely.

I loved having her here and showing her off to everyone. I adore her and I’m even more in love now.

Too many stars

10 years ago today I arrived on British soil for the first time. 10 years ago!

10!!

I cannot believe how quickly the time has gone. How happy I’ve been in my new home. Getting to join my wife and create a new life together. Being with her 10 years later.

I miss my family in America. I miss some foods. I don’t miss the politics. I don’t miss the weather [Idaho is cold in winter!].

Ten years.

I was a stupid kid when I moved here, but I have proved time and time again that it was the smartest thing I ever did.

BlanketGirl is here in the flesh! Weasel and I collected her with minimal problems on Tuesday. We got there and waiting at the arrivals gate was torture! I spotted a Krispy Kreme so we each had a doughnut. They hurt my teeth. I was surprised I didn’t love it. I took to whimpering while waiting. When she appeared I had to run and get hugs and kisses and it was wonderful. We got home at 5:30 – 7.5 hours round trip.

We’re eating very well. Planning Stuffed Pizza Rolls for dinner tonight. Doodle will be joining us as usual and I’m excited to introduce him to BG.

We’re all entertaining each other greatly so there is a lot of laughter.

BlanketGirl and I got our hair cut yesterday and it was very good fun. No photos because we didn’t remember to take any. There will be photos next week though.

We’ve mostly adjusted to having three people in the house. Only having one bathroom hasn’t been a huge problem and the kitchen fits three people just.

It has been a fairly uneventful week otherwise. Mostly just being enamoured with each other. I expect things will pick up once BG isn’t jet-lagged.
